What's with Web 2.0..

During class, our teacher asked us to write about Web 2.0 and I was caught off gaurd because honestly, I don't know about Web 2.0. So, I made it a point to research about it.

I came across with some definition of web 2.0 as:

-- a generational change in the way software is conceived.

--It's the beginning of a new era in technology -- one that promises to help nonprofits operate more efficiently, generate more funding, and affect more lives.

--the Web as an full-blown landscape of shareable services

--a collaborative use of the Web — sharing and mixing up information and resources — so moving on from the first generation of the Web, which was more about using websites just to publish content and sell things.

And it all dawned unto me. I am already practicing some of the ideas of Web 2.0 without even realizing it!

Web 2.0 is open,it's giving up control on your data. Someone (sorry I forgot the name of that someone)called it a 'glocalization' because its the combination of local and global ideas where data are made locally but can be published and accessed globally. People who consume media, access the Internet, and use the Web don't just passively absorb what's available -- rather, they become an active contributors, helping customize media and technology for their own purposes, as well as those of their communities. It is also about new interfaces -- new ways of accessing the internet. And most of all, it is also a platform to build on for educators, students, business, politics, and other fields.

Although Web 2.0 suggests a change of the world wide web, it does not refer to some technical aspects but a change in how the developers and end users access the web.
